Standing Committees

 

Executive (Phillip Shelton

The governing body of the section.  It consists of the following section officers - Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, the immediate Past Chair, the Section Councilor(s), the Section Alternate Councilor(s) and one member-at-large selected by the Chair.

Membership (Rebecca Brown, Ph.D.)

Three member committee tasked to promote retention of current members and recruitment of new members.  The chair ex officio is the Secretary-Treasure who selects additional members in concurrence with the Section Chair.

Nominating (Rachel Allenbaugh)

Three member committee tasked to identify and recruit candidates for Section offices as well as to conduct the Section election. 
The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair after consultation with the Executive Committee.

Program (Genessa Smith)

Three member committee tasked with program planning and program and meeting implementation and hospitality for the following year. The chair ex officio is the Chair-Elect who selects additional members in concurrence with the Section Chair.

Public Relations (Bommanna Loganathan)

Three member committee tasked with publicity, public affaires, and public relations for the section. The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair.

 

Ad Hoc Committees

 

Women Chemists Committee (Abigail Shelton)

Three member committee tasked with promoting the role of women in chemistry, especially the contributions and opportunities from the Kentucky Lake region. The chairman and other members are selected by the Section Chair.

Government Affairs Committee (Charles Baldwin)

Influencing Federal and State legislative actions has become a national emphasis of the American Chemical Society.  Tennessee has been designated by ACS as one of the five pilot states for focused legislative involvement. This includes direct contact with legislators as well as encouraging letter writing campaigns by Society members to educate and influence lawmakers when debating scientific and specifically chemistry related issues.  The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair.

Awards (Charles Baldwin)

Three member committee tasked to nominate and confer all awards given by the section including National, Regional, and Local Awards. The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair.

National Chemistry Week (Abigail Shelton)

Three member committee tasked to promote and encourage recognition of National Chemistry Week throughout the Section.  The Section Coordinator shall serve as its chair.  There shall also be a Kentucky-Illinois area chair and a Tennessee area chair responsible for their respective geographical areas.  The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair.

Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (Bommanna Loganathan, Ph.D.

Four member committee tasked to promote and encourage recognition of Chemists Celebrate Earth Day throughout the Section.  The Section Coordinator shall serve as its chair.  The chair and other members are selected by the Section Chair.
